Sevilla have completed the signing of Nigerian striker Akor Adams from Montpellier for €5.5 million.
The 24-year-old becomes the third Nigerian at the club, joining Super Eagles duo Kelechi Iheanacho and Chidera Ejuke. Adams has signed a contract that runs until 2029.
The Nigerian departs Montpellier after a challenging spell in Ligue 1, where he managed just three goals and three assists in 15 appearances this season. The former Flying Eagles forward last scored on September 22, 2024, enduring an 11-game goal drought despite regular playing time.

He previously shone in Norway with Lillestrøm SK, scoring 17 goals in as many matches during the 2023 season, which caught the attention of European clubs.
Adams’ role in connection to Iheanacho’s uncertain future
At Sevilla, Adams is expected to compete with Isaac Romero for the starting striker role. Romero has been preferred by manager Francisco Pimienta, leaving Iheanacho to play a backup role.
The 28-year-old Nigerian has struggled to adapt since joining Sevilla on a free transfer from Leicester City in 2024. He has scored three goals in 11 appearances across all competitions this season, all in the Copa del Rey, and is averaging just 52 minutes per game.
Iheanacho has been linked with moves to Ipswich Town, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Leeds United in the January transfer window, raising doubts about his future at the Andalusian club.
Adams, who watched Sevilla’s match against Espanyol on Saturday, now has a chance to reignite his career. With his pace and physicality, the Nigerian forward could provide a fresh attacking option for Sevilla as they look to climb up the La Liga table.
However, with his recent form, the pressure will be on Adams to deliver and avoid following in the footsteps of his underperforming compatriot.
