Italian politician faults Atalanta’s mentality over potential Lookman sale

Italian politician and former journalist Vittorio Feltri has expressed concern over the potential departure of Ademola Lookman from Atalanta in a recent interview.

Feltri praised Lookman, and joined former AC Milan and Real Madrid manager Fabio Capello in linking the retention of the 26-year-old to the possibility of a Serie A push for Gian Piero Gasperini's side.

The Nigeria international has attracted the attention of several top European clubs due to his exceptional performances, particularly his standout display in the UEFA Europa League final against Bayer 04 Leverkusen. In that match, he made history by becoming the first player to score a hat-trick in a Europa League final.

Recently, he has been linked with potential moves to Premier League powerhouses Arsenal and Liverpool, as well as French giants Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

Ademola Lookman a phenomenon

In an interview relayed by Area Napoli, the 81-year-old Feltri lauded Ademola Lookman as a “phenomenon,” but expressed concerns about the forward's future with La Dea. “Now I fear that they will take him away from us, because if a big offer arrives Atalanta will sell,” he said.

He further commented on the club's financial priorities, adding, “This is also why the club has its accounts in order. I know the president Percassi, he is a very shrewd businessman, I don't think he will invest to aim for the Scudetto.”

Amid uncertainty surrounding his future at Atalanta, the CAF Player of the Year favourite has yet to feature for the Europa League holders in their opening two Serie A matches.

Recent reports suggest that Lookman has agreed to personal terms with PSG, but the French giants are finding it difficult to reach an agreement with Atalanta, who have set a €60 million asking price for the former Leicester man.
