KRC Genk reclaimed their position at the top of the Belgian Pro League with a 2-1 win over Westerlo at Het Kuipje on Saturday, courtesy of a stellar performance from Nigerian forward Tolu Arokodare

The 24-year-old contributed a goal and an assist in a dominant first-half display that sealed Genk’s crucial victory.

Arokodare opened his account for the evening in the 18th minute, setting up Zakaria El-Ouahdi to fire home from the center of the box. Twelve minutes later, Arokodare doubled Genk's advantage with a sublime left-footed strike into the top corner after a swift counterattack orchestrated by Patrik Hrosovsky.

The Nigerian forward’s efficiency in front of goal has been a hallmark of his breakout season. In just 22 league appearances, Arokodare has amassed 14 goals and five assists, solidifying his reputation as one of the Pro League's top attacking talents.

The lanky striker's night ended prematurely in the 62nd minute when he was substituted for Hyun-Gyu Oh after sustaining a minor knock.

His absence was felt as Westerlo pushed for a comeback, with Isa Sakamoto halving the deficit in the 87th minute. However, Genk held on to claim all three points, taking their tally to 48 for the season.

Arokodare’s 62-minute shift highlighted his influence. He registered one goal, one assist, and one shot on target from two attempts.

His passing accuracy stood at an impressive 88%, completing 14 of 16 passes, while also winning two of his four ground duels.

Despite his early exit, Arokodare continues to lead the Genk frontline with authority. He is the league’s top scorer with 14 goals and leads by just two, keeping the Golden Boot firmly within reach.

With Club Brugge three points ahead and 23 games played, Genk will rely on the Lagos born's clinical form as the title race heats up.
