Arsenal icon recommends Osimhen as solution to Gunners’ near-success syndrome

Former Arsenal player Emmanuel Petit has urged the club to sign Nigerian international Victor Osimhen ahead of the next football season.

The London club are among those linked with the 25-year-old, alongside Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), and Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli.

Despite having an impressive strike force, Arsenal's offensive line is not without its challenges, with Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah struggling to find their scoring touch.

Petit is of the view that Osimhen is the ideal forward to solve this inefficiency and help the Premier League runners-up get over the line.

However, he will not come cheap, as Napoli are demanding Osimhen's release clause, which is over €120 million, in full. The Gunners are reportedly unwilling to pay this amount.

In a recent interview, the 53-year-old shared his thoughts on the club's need for a top-class striker to enhance their competitiveness in both the Premier League and the Champions League.

He expressed his admiration for the Napoli forward and explained how Victor Osimhen's qualities could greatly benefit Arsenal's attacking lineup.

“I would love to see a player like Osimhen, for example, as a striker,” Petit stated as per talkSPORT.

“Someone who can hold defenders and think differently in terms of attacking the spaces behind the defenders and being a big threat on set pieces. A physical presence as well, but someone who can speak the same football.

“I’ve been watching him since he was at Lille before he left for Napoli and he would fit perfectly. I don’t know if Arsenal are going to buy him, but the first thing that they need is a striker… if they want to compete even more with Manchester City in the Premier League, but also in the Champions League games.”

Petit featured for the North London giants between 1997 and 2000, making 118 appearances and scoring 11 goals. He won the Premier League, FA Cup, and FA Charity Shield in that period.
