Two Super Eagles players squared off against each other as Hatayspor and Fenerbahce clashed on Saturday evening.

Former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru started for the hosts, while Bright Osayi-Samuel got the start for the visiting team.

Fenerbahce needed all three points in order to overtake local rivals Galatasaray on the Super Lig table.

In contrast, Hatayspor were 16th on the league table, just a spot above the relegation zone.

The hosts had lost five consecutive matches against Fenerbahce, and it didn't particularly help that they were on a four-match winless streak (1 draw, 3 losses) ahead of Saturday's clash.

Interestingly, Bright Osayi-Samuel was the first player to be booked, as he received a yellow card just eight minutes into the game due to a foul.

However, the Super Eagles defender redeemed himself minutes later, scoring Fenerbahce's first goal.

Osayi-Samuel didn't contribute much defensively, as he had no tackles, interceptions, clearances or blocked shots in 66 minutes of play.

Meanwhile Dele-Bashiru was on the field for 61 minutes, and he did nothing noteworthy.

Both players were subbed off within five minutes of each other, while Fenerbahce had a two-goal lead.

We would like to point out that Fisayo Dele-Bashiru has earned just one cap for the Super Eagles so far. He was called up to the national team for a couple of friendlies in October 2023.

The former Sheffield Wednesday player got his Super Eagles debut in their 3-2 victory over Mozambique on 16th October, registering an assist. Bright Osayi-Samuel started alongside him.

Also, Fisayo's elder brother Tom Dele-Bashiru currently plies his trade with Watford. Although he's yet to earn his first cap for the Super Eagles, the 24-year-old represented Nigeria's youth teams (U-20 & U-23) after making the switch from England (U-16s).

Hatayspor eventually lost by two unanswered goals to Fenerbahce. The visitors have now moved to the top spot, while Hatayspor remains in 16th position on the Super Lig table.
