The Confederation of African Football (CAF) have officially postponed the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) to August 2025.
Initially slated to take place in February 2024 across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, the tournament will now be held this summer to allow the host nations more time to meet infrastructure requirements.
CAF released a statement highlighting the progress made in upgrading stadiums, training facilities, hotels, and other essential amenities. However, consultations with technical and infrastructure experts concluded that additional time is required to complete the necessary preparations to ensure a successful tournament.
As part of the updated schedule, the official draw for the CHAN will now take place in Nairobi on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at 20:00 local time. The exact start date for the tournament in August 2025 will be announced later.
What next for CHAN-bound Nigeria Super Eagles B?
Nigeria’s Super Eagles B, who defeated Ghana’s Black Galaxies 3-1 on aggregate in December 2024, will make their first CHAN appearance since 2018.

The team is currently training at the Remo Stars Sports Institute in Ikenne-Remo in preparation for the competition.
With the postponement, it is expected that the players will be released to their clubs to participate in the Nigeria Premier Football League while awaiting the tournament.
