CHAN 2025: Super Eagles B learn tough group for postponed tournament

Published on by

Nigeria’s Super Eagles B team will battle Senegal, Congo, and Sudan in Group D of the 2025 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) following Wednesday’s draw conducted by CAF at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi, Kenya.

The draw marks Nigeria’s return to CHAN, a tournament exclusively for players competing in their domestic leagues. Group D, the only group with four teams, promises intense competition as Nigeria seeks one of the two available slots to progress.

Nigeria’s best CHAN performance came in 2018, finishing as runners-up after a 4-0 loss to Morocco in the final.

In 2014, the team claimed third place by defeating Zimbabwe in the classification game.

Tough task ahead for Nigeria's Super Eagles B

The Super Eagles B team secured qualification for the 2025 edition by overpowering Ghana 4-1 on aggregate, following a goalless first leg in Accra and a dominant home win in the return leg.

Defending champions Senegal, who edged Algeria 5-4 on penalties to win the last edition, will provide a stern test.

Congo and Sudan, both experienced in continental competitions, round out the group, ensuring a tough path for Nigeria.

Originally slated for February 2025, the tournament will now take place in August, jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

The Super Eagles B team have been in residential camping in Ikenne in preparation for the tournament but after the postponement, the players are expected to head back to their clubs and reconvene at a later date.
