Forgotten Super Eagles forward close to Sevilla move

Nigeria forward Chidera Ejuke, is set to take his talents to Spain's La Liga after agreeing to join Sevilla on a free transfer.

The news comes after a successful loan spell with Royal Antwerp in Belgium's Jupiler Pro League, where Ejuke impressed with his trickery and attacking prowess.

The winger spent last season on loan at Royal Antwerp from parent club CSKA Moscow. The 26-year-old's four-year contract with the Russian club then expired, paving the way for a move to Sevilla.

According to Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, a verbal agreement is already in place between Ejuke and Sevilla. The official signing, medical check-up, and contract finalization are expected to take place next week. This move makes Ejuke only the second Nigerian player to represent the Andalusian club, following in the footsteps of Super Falcons star Toni Payne.

Chidera Ejuke: A fresh start in La Liga

Ejuke will be eager to prove himself in one of Europe's top leagues, having endured an underwhelming loan spell with Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin in the 2022/23 season.

Sevilla, on the other hand, will be hoping the Nigerian winger can help them climb back into European competitions. The club finished a disappointing 14th place in the recently concluded La Liga season.

Ejuke's dribbling, passing, and long-range shooting could provide a much-needed spark to Sevilla's attack.

This move to Sevilla marks a significant step up for Ejuke's career. La Liga enjoys a stronger reputation than the Belgian league, and the competition will be much fiercer. However, with his talent and confidence, Ejuke has the potential to become a star player for Sevilla and potentially earn a call-up back to the Super Eagles.

Ejuke has earned eight senior international caps, but last featured for Nigeria at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (held in 2022) in Cameroon.
