Getafe manager Jose Bordalas has described midfielder Chrisantus Uche as a player with great potential as the Nigerian prepares to make his bow in La Liga.
Uche’s rise to the Spanish topflight has been meteoric, having signed for Getafe in June despite having no prior experience in any topflight league. The 21-year-old started his career in Owerri but was signed by Spanish fourth-tier side Moralo CP in July 2022.
After just a year in Western Spain, where he helped the club get within touching distance of the promotion playoffs, he sealed a move to third-tier side Cueta last year.

Uche’s impressive displays in the Primera Federacion saw him skip the Segunda Division and move straight to La Liga after Getafe paid a fee of around €500,000 to recruit him.
Bordalas personally requested for Chrisantus Uche
Having posted impressive performances in Getafe’s pre-season games, Chrisantus Uche is in line to start when the Madrid-based outfit open their La Liga campaign against Athletic Bilbao on Thursday.
The defensive midfielder has the utmost trust of Getafe boss Bordalas, who revealed in a pre-match press conference that he personally requested the player’s signing, and tipped Uche to excel in the Spanish topflight.
“He is a boy who, as you know, was a personal request from me to the president last winter and we are very happy because we think he has a lot of potential,” the 60-year-old said.
“When the championship starts we'll know the level he can give us. We have a lot of confidence in him: he has a very good attitude and his teammates are helping him a lot.”
Ahead of his debut La Liga campaign, Uche will be aiming to follow in the footsteps of compatriot Ikechukwu Uche, who became a fan favourite during his time with Getafe.
