Dessers: Cagliari renew pursuit of in-form Nigerian forward

Serie A side Cagliari have rekindled their interest in Cyriel Dessers, the in-form Nigerian forward, as the Italian club looks to bolster their attacking options.

The Nigeria international has regained his form and is quickly winning over the Rangers faithful, following back-to-back goals for the club within just four days.

Dessers netted a crucial late equaliser for Rangers in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League qualifier against Dynamo Kyiv on August 6.

He continued his impressive form by finding the back of the net again, helping the Gers secure their first league victory of the season with a 2-1 triumph over Motherwell at Hampden Park on Saturday.

The 29-year-old, who has repeatedly been a reduced to a figure of ridicule since his arrival at Ibrox despite an impressive debut season, is reportedly attracting interest from the Italian side.

Cagliari targets Dessers as potential replacement for Gianluca Lapadula

According to Italian media outlet Tutto Mercato Web, the Serie A side has shifted its focus back to Dessers, eyeing him as a potential replacement for the departing striker Gianluca Lapadula.

Dessers had previously been linked with a potential £4.2 million move away from Ibrox this summer, with Cagliari and Greek side PAOK emerging as potential suitors.

However, it remains to be seen whether the Gers would be willing to part with the Nigerian forward, who appears to be enjoying a resurgence at Ibrox.

Dessers joined Rangers at the beginning of the 2023/24 season from Italian club Cremonese and has since registered 23 goals in 56 appearances for the club.
