It was a tough night for Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers as Rangers were handed a humbling 4-1 defeat by Lyon in their Europa League clash on Thursday.
Despite providing an assist, the 29-year-old and his Scottish side were completely outplayed by the French visitors at Ibrox.
The game began in electrifying fashion, with Lyon striking first in the 10th minute. However, Rangers responded almost immediately, with Cyriel Dessers playing a crucial role in the equalizer. Just four minutes after Lyon's opener, the Nigeria international set up Tom Lawrence, who coolly slotted home to bring Rangers level at 1-1.

Unfortunately for Rangers, that moment of joy was short-lived. Lyon quickly regained control of the game, with the experienced Alexandre Lacazette leading them to a comfortable 4-1 victory.
How Cyriel Dessers performed against Lyon
In terms of individual performance, Dessers had a mixed outing. He played the full 90 minutes and was involved in the build up to Rangers' only goal.
His assist showed his awareness and ability to pick out his teammates, but beyond that, his influence on the game was limited. He managed one shot on target and saw another effort blocked.
With 21 touches in total, the former Feyenoord man was unable to make a significant impact in the final third, and he missed a big chance to score. His passing was also less than spectacular, completing 10 out of 15 attempts for a pass accuracy of 64%.

Aerially, he struggled to assert himself, winning just one out of four duels, and he was not involved in any ground duels.
This match marked Dessers' first assist in the Europa League, adding to the one goal he has already scored in the competition. Overall, the Nigerian forward has netted seven goals across all competitions for Rangers, along with three assists.
Meanwhile, fellow Nigerian Gift Orban was an unused substitute for Lyon in the game.
