Chidera Ejuke's promising run with Sevilla has taken a sudden and unfortunate turn. In what was expected to be another standout appearance, the Super Eagles winger experienced a devastating setback during Sevilla’s La Liga clash against Barcelona.

With hopes high for a strong performance, fans were rather left worried after the Nigerian star exited the pitch prematurely.

The match, already a tough contest for Sevilla, saw Ejuke taken off the pitch before halftime, raising concerns about the severity of his condition.

The 26-year-old had been building momentum within the squad but now faces an uncertain period on the sidelines.

The initial signs pointed to a significant hamstring injury, but further details remained under wraps until the club issued a formal update.

Sevilla's medical team confirmed the extent of Ejuke's injury in a statement released on Monday.

His exit came as a blow, both for the club, country, and the player, who had just returned from a successful stint with Nigeria's national team.

Ejuke's injury blow confirmed as major setback

According to Sevilla's statement, Ejuke underwent medical tests the morning after the match, which confirmed the diagnosis of a high-grade hamstring tear in his left thigh.

“The Nigerian player underwent the relevant medical tests on Monday morning that determined this diagnosis,” the club noted.

This major setback has not only ruled him out of club action but also placed his international future in doubt, with Nigeria’s upcoming fixtures just three weeks away.

The exact length of his recovery is still uncertain, though early reports suggest the winger could be out for six to eight weeks.

This hamstring injury comes at a critical time, with Sevilla struggling in La Liga and interim coach Augustine Eguavoen set to prepare for upcoming 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Benin and Rwanda.

Ejuke had featured in six of Sevilla's nine matches this season, logging over 500 minutes of play.
