Every Nigerian transfer in the 2024/25 summer transfer window

Published on by , updated on

The summer transfer window has ended in Europe's top leagues, and many Nigerian players have found a new home in the last couple of months.

In this article, we will provide a comprehensive list of Nigerian transfers over the course of the summer transfer window.

Super Eagles players who switched clubs this summer

Frank Onyeka

Since signing for Brentford in 2021, Frank Onyeka has struggled to secure a regular spot in the team due to injuries, featuring in only 28 games.

In a bid to gain more playing time, Onyeka penned a season-long loan deal with Bundesliga club FC Augsburg on 30 August.

Kelechi Iheanacho

Super Eagles attacking midfielder Kelechi Iheanacho joined Sevilla as a free agent in July after his contract at Leicester City expired in June.

Iheanacho spent seven years with the Foxes, scoring 61 goals in 232 appearances. He departed as a club legend after helping the club secure promotion back to the Premier League last campaign.

William Troost-Ekong

After just one season with Greek club PAOK, where he won the Super League, Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong joined Saudi Arabian club Al-Kholood in a two-year deal with an option for an additional year.

At the time of writing, Troost-Ekong has made two appearances for the Saudi side, losing on both occasions.

Alhassan Yusuf

Nigeria international Alhassan Yusuf sealed a move from Belgian side Royal Antwerp to Major League Soccer outfit New England Revolution in a deal that will run until 2027, with an option to extend for an additional year.

The 24-year-old spent three seasons with Antwerp, featuring in 90 matches and scoring three goals.

Yusuf is yet to make a competitive debut for the Greater Boston MLS side.

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru

Rising Super Eagles forward Fisayo Dele-Bashiru completed a one-year loan move from Hatayspor to Serie A club Lazio, with an option to buy at the end of the 2024/25 season.

He joined the likes of Ogenyi Onazi, Stephen Makinwa and Daniel Ola, who have played for the Rome-based side.

Dele-Bashiru made his competitive debut for I Biancocelesti on the opening day of the season against newly promoted Venezia.

Kelechi Nwakali

On 12 August, Kelechi Nwakali joined League One side Barnsley for an undisclosed fee on a three-year deal, after his contract at Portuguese side Chavez was terminated due to disciplinary reasons.

Nwakali will remain with Barnsley until June 2027. At the time of writing, the 26-year-old midfielder is yet to make his debut.

Gabriel Osho

Luton and Gabriel Osho failed to reach an agreement for a new deal after the club's relegation from the Premier League last season.

The situation made the English-born Nigerian defender seek new challenges abroad.

On 11 July, newly promoted French Ligue 1 outfit Auxerre announced the signing of Osho on a one-year contract, with the option of two additional years. He made a winning debut in a 2-1 defeat of Nice on the opening day of the 24/25 league season.

Super Eagles players who failed to secure transfers despite much speculation

Victor Osimhen

After a highly anticipated transfer Deadline Day in the Serie A, Victor Osimhen failed to secure a move away from Napoli as negotiations with Al Ahli and Chelsea fell apart.

The situation with Osimhen and the Napoli outfit has turned sour after many months of transfer speculation ended without a concrete decision from the Super Eagles hitman.

Osimhen is not in Antonio Conte's plans and has been excluded from the squad for the current season. He has a couple of days left to find a solution or remain at the club until January.

Stanley Nwabali

After many months of transfer speculation, Chippa United announced on their official X account that Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has penned a three-year extension with the Premier Soccer League side.

The 28-year-old shot-stopper kept 10 clean sheets in 25 PSL games, helping Chippa United to a 12th-place finish in the South African domestic top flight. He will be eager to continue his good record with the Eastern Cape Province outfit.

Wilfried Ndidi

Wilfried Ndidi signed a new deal with Leicester City that will keep him at the club until 2027.

Ndidi was rumoured to seek a new challenge elsewhere following the expiration of his contract at the King Power in June.

However, the Super Eagles midfielder decided to renew his commitment with the Foxes as they aim to remain in the Premier League after a one-year spell in the EFL Championship.

Paul Onuachu

Towering Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu returned to Southampton following an impressive loan spell at Trabzonspor last season.

Both clubs tried to find a way to make his stay in Turkiye permanent, but issues with the transfer fee meant that Onuachu would remain at Southampton. He has yet to make an appearance for the Saints this season.

Super Eagles players currently without a club

Ahmed Musa

Ahmed Musa signed for Turkish club Sivasspor on a two-year deal in September 2022. However, his contract was terminated by mutual agreement, and he has remained a free agent since then.

Musa has scored 96 club career goals in 393 appearances and 16 goals for the Super Eagles in 109 matches.

Victor Moses

Victor Moses has been without a club since the expiration of his contract at Spartak Moscow in June 2024. The 2013 AFCON winner with Nigeria scored 61 club career goals across 474 matches.

Moses featured in 38 games for Nigeria and scored 12 goals before his retirement from the national team.

Isaac Success

On 26 August 2021, Isaac Success signed a three-year deal with Udinese. However, in August 2024, his contract was terminated by mutual consent, and he has been without a club since then.

Success has featured only four times for the Super Eagles and is yet to register a goal.

Samuel Kalu

Samuel Kalu is currently a free agent after Watford terminated his contract. He spent last season on loan at Swiss side FC Lausanne-Sport.

Kalu scored twice for the Super Eagles in 16 appearances, and has 31 goals in 211 games in his club career.
