Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has disclosed the footballers who inspired him during his formative years as a player.
Lookman, currently enjoying the most successful phase of his career, has named former Brazil international Robinho, Portuguese great Cristiano Ronaldo, and Barcelona legend Lionel Messi as his childhood idols.
The 26-year-old enjoyed a standout season last year, during which he helped the Super Eagles reach the final of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

His remarkable performance in the UEFA Europa League final for Atalanta, where he scored the match-winning goal, earned him a nomination for the Ballon d'Or—making him the only African on the list—and he is also a strong contender for the African Footballer of the Year accolade.
Reflecting on his early influences, Lookman highlights how these icons shaped his development and approach to the game.
Lookman reflects on the icons who shaped his game
Speaking to TMW, Lookman took a moment to reflect on the footballing legends who inspired him during his early years.
“When I was little, I admired Robinho, a different player. And then of course Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. My football is instinctive. If I think about it too much, I freeze,” he shared.
The former RB Leipzig man finished the 2023/24 campaign with 33 goal involvements for club and country; he has started this term in similarly fine form, with five goals and three assists already to his name.

Reports indicate that Lookman is considering a move away from La Dea in January. He has previously been linked with prominent clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Arsenal, and Liverpool.
