‘Iwobi is better than Jackson’ – Fans laud Super Eagles maestro for Chelsea display

Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi was on the scoresheet again for Fulham, but his side suffered a painful 2-1 defeat to Chelsea after conceding two late goals at Craven Cottage on Sunday.

Iwobi opened the scoring in the 20th minute, finishing off a neat move after receiving a pass from Ryan Sessegnon.

The Nigerian calmly slotted the ball past Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sánchez with a composed finish—his ninth goal of the season.

The goal was his second in back-to-back home games, having also found the net against Liverpool earlier this month. Despite his effort, Fulham couldn’t hold on, as Chelsea turned the game around late on.

The goal and his all-round performance was greeted by posts on X (formerly known as Twitter) highlighting his displays.

His celebration with teammate Calvin Bassey caught the eye.

After the goal, Iwobi was joined by fellow Super Eagles teammate Calvin Bassey to perform a choreographed celebration dance they had planned ahead of the match—adding a bit of flair to the moment.

Iwobi’s performance was widely praised on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), with fans celebrating his growing impact this season.

The goal marked his 14th goal contribution (goals and assists combined), making this one of his most productive campaigns in club football.

There was also buzz around Iwobi for reasons beyond the pitch.

Just days before the match, the Nigerian international released a new song with popular artistes Odumodublvck and Ramz.

Many fans pointed out the impressive timing—dropping a song on Thursday and scoring a goal on Sunday against Chelsea.

Iwobi’s goal tally for Fulham has now surpassed the total number of goals he scored during his time at Arsenal (15), where he began his professional career.

Online comparisons were also made between Iwobi and Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson, with one post noting that both players have now scored nine goals each this season.

While Jackson has spent time out injured, the comparison still underlines Iwobi’s improved numbers in front of goal.

It was indeed a bitter-sweet day for the forward as despite shining with a goal, his team lost the game.
