Super Eagles winger Moses Simon has emerged as one of the most effective dribblers in Europe’s top leagues this season, ranking fourth in dribble completion rates.
The Nantes forward has completed 133 successful dribbles, surpassing global stars like Vinícius Jr., Bukayo Saka, Kylian Mbappé, and Jamal Musiala.
The dribbling leaderboard, according to MB football, is topped by Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal and Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams with 153 dribbles each, followed by Tottenham’s Dejan Kulusevski with 139. Simon‘s figures also make him the best dribbler in Ligue 1, reaffirming his importance to Nantes.
This season, the Nigeria international has contributed four goals and five assists in 15 Ligue 1 appearances, helping Nantes stay just above the relegation zone. At 29, his blend of pace, physicality, and one-on-one prowess remains the driving force in the club’s attack.
Could Simon force Chelle to abandon the diamond?
Despite his club success, Simon may face challenges under new Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle.
The coach’s preference for a diamond midfield system typically limits opportunities for natural wingers, prioritizing central play and attacking midfielders instead.
Simon, renowned for his ability to operate on the flanks, could find himself on the fringes of Chelle’s plans unless he adapts to a more central or versatile role.

However, the Nigeria winger’s statistics and game-changing ability could compel the Malian gaffer to reconsider.
By incorporating a system that accommodates wide players, Simon’s pace and dribbling could unlock stubborn defenses, offering Nigeria a more dynamic attacking threat.
As the Ligue 1 season progresses and Nigeria prepares for its next international fixtures in March, the 29-year-old's performances at club level may be key to keeping his spot in the Super Eagles’ starting XI. If Chelle aims for results over rigid tactical setups, Simon could remain indispensable.
