Injury blow for Super Falcons star midfielder

Super Falcons midfielder Christy Ucheibe is set to miss several months of action after sustaining an injury while playing for her Portuguese club, SL Benfica Women.

The injury occurred during the first leg of the UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL) tie against Swedish side Hammarby, which Benfica won 2-1.

As Benfica prepare for the return leg against the Swedish side, Ucheibe shared the news of her injury on Instagram, expressing her disappointment.

“As you all may have heard, I unfortunately got injured in the Champions League match against Hammarby,” Ucheibe wrote.

“It’s going to be a few hard and demanding months, but nothing to worry about. I have God, who has never let me down, and He will help me through these trying times.

I am surrounded by wonderful people with good hearts, and my full focus is on getting better than ever before. See you all soon.”

Ucheibe had started the season on a high note with Benfica, following her return from the Paris Olympics, delivering standout performances for the Eagles as they chased league and continental glory.

Her absence will be a significant blow to Benfica’s midfield and the team in general as they push to qualify for the group stage of the UWCL this season.

The 23-year-old midfielder has been a key player for Nigeria, featuring in all the Super Falcons’ matches at the Paris Olympics as Nigeria exited the competition after the group stage.

Ucheibe, known for her tenacity in midfield, has represented Nigeria at U-17 and U-20 levels and has earned 19 caps with the senior national team.
