Former Hibernian and Dundee forward Tom McManus has called on Rangers to reinstate Leon Balogun as their starting centre-half, arguing that the defender excels at the fundamentals of defending.
McManus believes that 36-year-old defender remains Rangers' standout defender, despite limited game time following the transfer of Dutch centre-back Robin Propper, who moved to Ibrox this simmer for £2.7 million from FC Twente.
The Nigeria international has made four appearances for the Gers in the Scottish Premiership so far, starting just one match and averaging 26 minutes of play per game.

McManus also expressed disappointment in the performances of of the Dutch centre-back, who has failed to impress since joining the team.
McManus: Leon Balogun remains Rangers' foremost defender
Speaking on the PLZ Football Show, McManus highlighted Leon Balogun’s continued excellence as Rangers' top defender, despite his limited opportunities this season.
“They’ve not played Balogun – they’ve bought Propper, and I’ve not been impressed so far with him,” McManus noted.
“I think Balogun is Rangers’ best centre-half, still, at doing the basics, defending.”

The veteran Super Eagles defender encountered a similar situation last season but made a compelling argument for more starting opportunities after delivering a standout performance against Hearts, contributing to a clean sheet and helping Rangers secure a place in the Scottish Cup final by the end of the season.
He initially signed with Rangers on July 24, 2020, on a one-year contract with an option for an additional year at the club's discretion. On April 9, 2021, he extended his stay with a new one-year deal.
After his contract expired in June 2022, Balogun left Rangers for Queens Park Rangers (QPR), with his final appearance being their 2022 Scottish Cup Final victory. He made a return to the club on July 12, 2023, rejoining Rangers as a free agent one year after his departure.
