Libya coach lays out clear plan to frustrate star-studded Super Eagles

Libya coach Nasser Al-Hadiri remains hopeful that his team can secure a positive result in their upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Super Eagles, despite acknowledging their lacklustre preparations for the match.

The Mediterranean Knights are set to face Group D leaders Nigeria on Friday, October 11, at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.

Nigeria, currently sitting at the top of the table, will be looking to assert their dominance over a Libyan side that occupies the bottom spot.

However, Al-Hadiri is optimistic that his team can pull off a surprise and come away with at least a point.

Libya arrived in Nigeria on Tuesday, October 8, via Port-Harcourt and then travelled by road to Uyo and their coach is realistic about the challenges ahead.

Speaking to the media, Al-Hadiri expressed concerns over his team's readiness.

“We are aiming to return to Libya with at least a draw after the Super Eagles match,” said Al-Hadiri. “We have not yet reached the required level of readiness to face a strong team like Nigeria.

“The team was not in good shape before I took over, and the absence of several players in our initial training sessions has made it difficult to establish a comprehensive tactical plan.”

Al-Hadiri added that the lack of preparation has been a significant hurdle for his team, but they are determined to put in the necessary effort to get a result.

“This lack of preparation presents an additional challenge for the team, who will need to put in extra effort to secure a positive result away from home.

“We aim to return with a draw to keep our qualification hopes alive,” he emphasized.

The second leg of the tie is scheduled for October 14 at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Libya, where the Mediterranean Knights will hope to turn their fortunes around in front of home support.
