Ikenne side Remo Stars earned their first ever top flight win over former champions Rivers United on Monday evening.
Togolese striker Franck Mawuena emerged as the star for Remo Stars in a historic 2-1 victory over Rivers United in a rescheduled NPFL clash.

The win brings Remo within striking distance of league leaders Rangers International, trailing by just one point.
In a gripping encounter, Remo Stars found themselves trailing to Andy Okpe's goal at halftime. The former Remo Stars striker scored from the spot in the 19th minute when full back Sadiq Ismail fouled the lively Deputy Echeta.
However, a spirited second-half display, led by talisman Mawuena, changed the game's dynamics entirely. The Togolese striker orchestrated the comeback by assisting Hadi Haruna for the equalizer before sealing the win with a powerful header from a corner.

Mawuena's second half show
Remo Stars got back on level terms through Haruna Hadi from a Mawuena assist and then the tall striker got the go-ahead goal with seven minutes left to end a nervy game for Remo Stars and Dan Ogunmodede who was on the touchline urging his team on.
The victory not only marks Remo's first-ever triumph against Rivers United but also intensifies the title race, with Remo now breathing down the neck of Rangers International at the top of the table.

The ‘Skyblues' are just a point behind leaders Rangers who are top of the log with 57 points after 32 games.
Mawuena's performance was pivotal to Remo's success, with his strength and movement causing constant problems for Rivers United's defense.

With six games left in the season, the NPFL looks to be a three horse race between Rangers, Remo and Enyimba but the chasing pack of Shooting Stars, Lobi Stars and Plateau United will be waiting for any of the front-three to slip up so they can squeeze into the title race.
