Simon first featured for Nigeria at youth level, getting called up for the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey.

He returned for the 2015 edition in New Zealand and made his senior debut that same year in March under Daniel Amokachi during a 2–0 friendly loss to Uganda.

He scored his first goal for the Super Eagles in a 2–0 win against Niger in September 2015.

Injuries ruled him out of the 2018 World Cup, but he bounced back strongly for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, where he played five matches and provided two assists as Nigeria claimed bronze.
