The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have called for applications for the Nigeria U-20 men's national team, the Flying Eagles, head coach position.

This follows the expiration of erstwhile coach Ladan Bosso’s tenure and an unimpressive showing at the Africa Games in Ghana.

In a press release, the NFF outlined the qualifications and requirements for the role, while stating that the vacancy was also open to coaches of all ages, whether based locally or in the diaspora.

They also announced that the application process would close on Sunday, August 4, 2024, after which there would be a “thorough screening process”, culminating in the naming of a successful candidate.

Tough requirements by NFF for Nigeria U-20 job

The NFF's criteria for the Nigeria U-20 job is as follows

  • Candidates must possess at least a CAF B License, have a minimum of five years of coaching experience, and boast a thorough knowledge of Nigeria’s domestic leagues.
  • The ideal coach must also be well-versed in the English language and capable of effective communication. Strong leadership qualities and the ability to work collaboratively with the NFF Technical Department and Technical Sub-Committee are also essential.
  • Applicants be of good standing and transparent in the discharge of their duties.
  • Candidates should have a track record of success in coaching within the past three years and be ready to work cordially with the NFF leadership.

The Nigeria U-20 side – the Flying Eagles – were last seen at the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Argentina, where they advanced to the knockout stages. However, their journey ended in the quarter-finals after a loss to South Korea.
