Nigeria’s prolific Super Falcons star and former Barcelona Femeni attacker Asisat Oshoala etched her name into the history books following a dazzling debut for the newly-formed National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) side, Bay FC.

Departing Barcelona after a successful five-year stint where she amassed an impressive collection of titles, including two UEFA Women’s Champions League trophies, the Spanish League, Copa de la Reina, and the Super Copa Feminina three times, Oshoala embarked on a new chapter in her career with the California-based team.

Oshola, 29, amidst speculation about her contract renewal at Barcelona, opted for a fresh challenge with Bay FC, joining forces with former USWNT players in the ambitious project. Her arrival at Bay FC, alongside the acquisition of Zambia’s Racheal Kundananji from Real Madrid for a record-breaking fee of $860,000, signaled the club's intent to succeed in the women’s game.

In her debut match against Angel City, Asisat Oshoala wasted no time in leaving her mark with just 17 minutes on the clock. She capitalized on a defensive error, seizing the opportunity to unleash a thunderous strike into the back of the net with her right foot.

The goal was Bay FC's first-ever goal in the top-flight. The momentous occasion was celebrated with gusto by Oshoala and her teammates, marking a significant milestone in the club's nascent journey.

Reflecting on her achievement, Oshoala expressed her delight at being part of Bay FC's inaugural goal, emphasizing her penchant for making history throughout her career.

“My career has always been about making history, and I am very happy to be a part of the history at this club,” Oshoala said.

Her two-year contract with Bay FC, with the option to extend for another year, underscores her commitment to the club's ambitious trajectory in American football.

Oshoala's stellar performance not only showcased her prowess on the field but also underscored her status as one of Africa's football icons.

With six CAF Player of the Year awards to her name and the distinction of being the first African nominee for the prestigious Ballon d'Or in 2022, Oshoala continues to inspire and break barriers on the global stage.

Additionally, her notable achievement as the first Nigerian to score in three Women's World Cups serves as a testament to her enduring impact on the sport.

While Angel City mounted a spirited response in front of a sellout crowd, Bay FC's goalkeeper Lysianne Proulx proved to be an immovable force, tallying eight saves to secure a shutout in her NWSL debut. Despite Angel City's relentless efforts, including a late scare cleared off the line by defender Caprice Dydasco.

Co-founded by former national team players Brandi Chastain, Aly Wagner, Danielle Slaton, and Leslie Osborne, Bay FC represents a fusion of experience and vision, poised to leave an indelible mark on the NWSL landscape.
