Super Eagles prospect Arthur Okonkwo has been recognized for outstanding performance by being named in the English Football League (EFL) Team of the Week.
The Nigerian goalkeeper played a pivotal role in Wrexham's goalless draw against Bolton Wanderers in League One. In front of a packed Toughsheet Community Stadium with 25,957 fans in attendance, Okonkwo was in imperious form, producing a string of crucial saves that preserved Wrexham's unbeaten start to the season.
The 22-year-old made seven vital stops, earning his first clean sheet of the campaign and solidifying his position as one of the standout performers of the weekend.
Sterling performance bolsters Arthur Okonkwo Super Eagles chances
Arthur Okonkwo’s alertness was evident from the opening minutes when he denied Szabolcs Schön's volley, followed by a sharp save from Aaron Collins’ effort and a well-placed free-kick from Josh Sheehan, all in the first half.
His heroics continued in the second half, where he thwarted Dion Charles’ deflected shot just after the restart, ensuring Bolton couldn’t find a way past him.

This stellar display earned Okonkwo a WhoScored.com rating of 8.34, one of the highest in the league this week. His inclusion in the EFL Team of the Week is a testament to his growing influence between the posts, as he joined top performers from Sunderland, Hull City, Watford, and others in the prestigious lineup.
With his recent form, Okonkwo is making a strong case for a call-up to Nigeria's Super Eagles. Despite Nigeria’s recent resurgence in goalkeeping talent, with Maduka Okoye and Stanley Nwabali in the mix, the uncertainty surrounding Francis Uzoho’s club situation could open the door for Okonkwo to stake his claim as third choice.
Born in London, the former England U-18 international reportedly committed to representing Nigeria eight months ago.
