Former Nigeria international Jonathan Akpoborie has lent his support to Bruno Labbadia’s appointment as the new Super Eagles coach, noting that the German trainer’s extensive experience and proven track record make him well-suited to lead Nigeria’s national team.
Labbadia was appointed as the new manager of the Super Eagles on Tuesday, succeeding Finidi George, who resigned from the position in June.
Akpoborie, who represented Nigeria from 1992 to 2001 and brings extensive experience from his time in the Bundesliga, is optimistic that Labbadia’s leadership will elevate the team’s success and foster greater cohesion within the squad.

Akpoborie confident Bruno Labbadia will improve Super Eagles
Speaking in an interview with Brila FM, Akpoborie, drawing from his extensive experience in the Bundesliga, believes Bruno Labbadia is equipped to lead the team to success.
“Bruno was a prolific striker; we were adversaries in the Bundesliga,” he said.
“He played for many big clubs in Germany and is a very good player and a well-known coach there. Appointing him as the Super Eagles coach is an upgrade compared to the names that have handled the team in the past.

“They’ve picked somebody capable of actually handling our national team for a very long time. This is somebody that can handle our national team, and I’m hoping that the chemistry between him and the players will come together, and we’ll see good football from Nigeria.
“The system wants to support the coach because, without the system supporting the coach, there is a problem.”
Akpoborie earned 13 caps and scored four goals during his tenure with the Super Eagles.
