Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo has officially parted ways with Turkish club Kasimpasa, bringing an end to his latest stint with the Istanbul-based side.

The 31-year-old terminated his contract by mutual consent and is now a free agent as he seeks a fresh challenge in his career.

Omeruo, who recently recovered from a long-term injury, has been sidelined for much of the current campaign.

He sustained an injury in Kasimpasa’s thrilling 3-3 draw against Galatasaray, limiting him to just five appearances this season.

Omeruo keeping his options open

Speaking about his departure, the experienced centre-back confirmed his exit to Afrik-Foot

“Yes, it is true I have terminated my contract with the club. It was a mutual one, and I wish the club all the best.”

“It has not been easy being out injured, but I am back now and raring to go.

“Right now, I am working on a few options, and when the time is right, I will let you know my next step.”

Omeruo first joined Kasimpasa on loan from Chelsea in 2015 before returning for another loan spell in 2017. After a successful period in Spain with Leganés, he made a permanent return to Kasimpasa in 2023 for a reported €1 million.

Across his two stints at the club, he made 85 appearances, scoring twice and providing three assists.

A seasoned international, Omeruo was part of Nigeria’s AFCON-winning squad in 2013 and featured at the 2014 and 2018 FIFA World Cups.

He also played a key role in the Super Eagles’ silver-medal finish at the recent AFCON in the Ivory Coast.

Now a free agent, the defender is reportedly attracting interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia and Qatar as he looks to secure his next move.
