Omorodion: ‘God was against Chelsea move’

Porto striker Samu Omorodion has opened up about the surprising twist that saw his dream move to Chelsea fall apart at the last minute, attributing the failed transfer to divine intervention.

Omorodion, who was on the brink of joining the Premier League giants after Chelsea reached a £34 million agreement with Atletico Madrid, saw the deal collapse just before it was finalised.

Reports indicated that concerns over an ankle injury halted the move, despite his inclusion in Chelsea’s shortlist of top summer targets.

The 20-year-old forward was set to be part of a swap deal involving Conor Gallagher's transfer to Atletico, but fate had other plans.

As the transfer window closed, Chelsea shifted their focus and opted to sign Joao Felix instead.

Since then, Omorodion has found new life at Porto, quickly making his mark by netting seven goals in seven games this season, including an impressive brace in Europa League.

In a recent interview with RTVE, Omorodion shared the emotional struggle he faced when his move to Stamford Bridge fell through.

“I went through a very difficult period, because, after all, everyone knows that I was about to sign [for Chelsea], but it's true that it didn't happen; it was for a reason. God didn't want it,” he said.

Omorodion expressed his gratitude to FC Porto, who gave him the opportunity to move forward during a challenging time.

He described the switch as a blessing, allowing him to refocus his energy on his new team.

“I'm also very grateful to Porto for giving me the opportunity when things looked at their worst, and I'm very happy with where I am now. I've left the past behind, and now I'm focused on what's coming to me,” the forward added.
