Onyedika scores third goal of the month as Club Brugge mount late title challenge

Super Eagles midfielder Raphael Onyedika seems to have found his scoring touch, netting once again in Club Brugge's 3-0 win over Royal Antwerp at the Jan Breydel Stadion on Sunday.

Onyedika opened the scoring for the hosts on the stroke of halftime, with Michal Skoras and Philip Zinckernagel adding goals in the second half to secure the victory for Club Brugge.

The goal against Royal Antwerp marked the 22-year-old's third in as many games, following his brace against Anderlecht last week and also recorded an assist against St. Truidense a week prior.

The win sends Club Brugge to third position on the league table, trailing table-toppers Union St. Gilloise by two points after 33 games played.

The former FC Midtjylland star will however miss Club Brugge’s next game against Union St Gilloise after picking his third yellow card of the Championship Round.

Onyedika seems to have peaked at the right time, with Club Brugge reportedly close to letting him leave at the end of the season.

Are Club Brugge making a transfer mistake by letting Onyedika out the door?

With Onyedika's current form, Club Brugge find themselves at a crossroads regarding the future of the Nigerian midfielder. With reports swirling that the club is considering letting Onyedika leave, questions arise about whether this decision would prove to be a transfer mistake.

Before Onyedika hit this good run of form, Club Brugge had resolved to let him leave this summer and even went ahead to acquire the services of 21-year-old Swiss international Ardon Jashari from FC Luzern as the Nigerian's replacement.

The prospect of letting Onyedika leave raises concerns among many football supporters. Given his current form and potential for further development, many believe that parting ways with the Nigerian midfielder could be a transfer mistake.

Onyedika joined Club Brugge in August 2022 from Danish side Midtjylland. He took no time becoming an integral member of the team. In his first season, the Super Eagles midfielder made 38 appearances recording a goal and two assists.

In the current campaign, Onyedika has played 40 matches in all competitions, while scoring four goals and providing two assists.

In recent games, the 22-year-old has proven himself to be a valuable asset to the team, and his departure could weaken Club Brugge's midfield and diminish their chances of success in future campaigns.

As speculation mounts over Onyedika's future, Club Brugge face a pivotal decision in the upcoming transfer window.

Whether they choose to retain the talented midfielder or let him depart, the outcome could have significant ramifications for the club's ambitions moving forward.

The question remains: are Club Brugge making a transfer mistake by letting Onyedika out the door? Only time will tell.

What clubs are currently interested in Onyedika?

In the past few weeks, Onyedika has been linked to several clubs including Barcelona, Nottingham Forest, Galatasaray, Crystal Palace and Everton.

As per a report from Liverpool World, Everton have singled out the midfielder as a prospective successor to Amadou Onana, who is expected to leave Goodison Park by the conclusion of the season.

The Belgian national is reportedly attracting interest from Manchester United and Barcelona, while Arsenal are also being considered as a potential destination.

If Everton were to part ways with Onana, the report indicates that the Premier League club would consider reinvesting some of the proceeds from his sale into acquiring Onyedika.

However, Turkish giants Galatasaray, who are reportedly long-time admirers of the Nigeria international, are keen on snapping him up.

How much are Club Brugge demanding for Onyedika?

According to reports, the 18-time Belgian champions have set a price tag for Onyedika between €10 million and €15 million. He initially joined Club Brugge for a fee in the region of €10 million.
