Osimhen: Napoli dismiss Galatasaray’s low-ball pursuit

Reports in Italy suggest that Napoli have rejected Galatasaray’s ambitious attempt to sign Victor Osimhen, choosing to stand firm despite the Super Eagles striker’s reported interest in finishing the season in Istanbul.

The 26-year-old joined the Turkish giants on loan after failing to secure a permanent move away from Napoli on deadline day. He has since emerged as a revelation in the Turkish top flight since his arrival in September.

The former Lille man's loan agreement with the Turkish club is set for a season, it includes a break clause that enables him to depart in January if any European clubs show interest and are prepared to meet his buyout clause of €75 million (£63.2 million).

With the Serie A club prioritising a summer sale, Galatasaray’s approach fell short of meeting Napoli’s demands.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Napoli have rejected Galatasaray’s €65 million bid for Victor Osimhen, standing firm on their valuation of the Super Eagles striker.

The Turkish giants attempted to sign Osimhen for €10 million less than the €75 million clause they were entitled to trigger in January. However, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis swiftly turned down the offer, opting to wait until the summer when the full clause applies to all suitors.

As per the agreement, Galatasaray hold the exclusive right to sign Osimhen for €75 million this month. However, if he moves elsewhere in January, the Turkish club is entitled to a €6 million compensation, making the total cost €81 million for any other club attempting a mid-season transfer.

From June, Osimhen’s release clause becomes €75 million for all interested parties, which Napoli consider a more favourable scenario.

Osimhen has netted 16 goals and provided 5 assists in 20 appearances across all competitions.
