Osimhen transfer: UEL winner Mourinho chose over Galatasaray striker revealed

Fenerbahçe legend Selim Soydan has voiced his frustration over José Mourinho’s decision to prioritise Youssef En-Nesyri, questioning why the club missed out on signing Victor Osimhen.

Fenerbahçe secured the signing of Moroccan international En-Nesyri from Sevilla this summer, but the striker has struggled to find his footing, managing just one goal in six appearances while averaging 38 minutes per game.

On the other hand, the Nigeria international Osimhen joined Fenerbahçe's fierce rivals Galatasaray on a season-long loan from Napoli and has already made an impact, providing two assists in his first two appearances for the reigning Turkish Super Lig champions.

Soydan contends that Mourinho's preference for En-Nesyri cost Fenerbahçe a prime opportunity to secure one of Europe’s most coveted strikers in the Super Eagles forward.

In an interview with Habersarikirmizi, Soydan contends that his former club missed a significant opportunity to sign Osimhen.

He stated, “How can you give 20 million Euros to this En-Nesyri? The guy can't score an empty net. I don't understand why Mourinho insists so much. Galatasaray bought Victor Osimhen. How could you lose such a guy? If necessary, you could have sent 1-2 players away, you shouldn't have lost Osimhen to Galatasaray,” he said.

“If I were the manager of Fenerbahçe right now, I would ask Mourinho this. ‘We bought the players you wanted. Galatasaray bought a centre forward. Why didn't we buy him? You know this guy, why didn't you tell us?,” he concluded.

Soydan's remarks follow Fenerbahçe's 1-3 defeat to their arch-rivals last Saturday, during which the 25-year-old contributed with an assist for Dries Mertens' goal.
