Osimhen addresses agonising wait for first Galatasaray goal

Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen narrowly missed scoring his first goal for Galatasaray during the team’s impressive 3-1 victory over PAOK in a Europa League fixture on Wednesday.

He played a pivotal role in the match by providing an assist to Yunus Akgun and inadvertently causing PAOK's Baba Rahman to score an own goal.

Since joining Galatasaray on a season-long loan from Napoli, the 25-year-old has yet to find the back of the net in three appearances.

However, he has made a notable impact by registering assists in each of these matches, demonstrating his ability to contribute effectively to the team's offensive play regardless.

Osimhen: ‘Team victory is what truly matters at Galatasaray'

After the game, Victor Osimhen underscored the significance of team success, highlighting that collective achievement is paramount in their pursuit of victories both in the league and European competitions.

“Unfortunately, it was an own goal again,” he said. “I feel like my goal was very close.

“The most important thing is for Galatasaray to win. I would also like to thank the fans. We need to continue winning in the league and in Europe.”

Osimhen also squashed suggestions of a rivalry in the striking ranks of the reigning Turkish champions. “We have a very good relationship with Mauro Icardi. He is also a leader. Michy Batshuayi is a very good character,” he said.

“I am very happy to be at Galatasaray. We help each other as a team. If I am not there, they are there. We will continue to win as a team.”
