Italian club reveals price for highly sought-after Super Eagles-eligible star

Serie A club Leece have placed a €20 million valuation on Patrick Dorgu, the Danish-born Super Eagles-eligible fullback, as reported by Tuttosport via JuventusNews.

The 19-year-old Danish U-21 player has become a highly sought-after talent in Italian football, drawing attention from top European clubs.

Dorgu has displayed his versatility this season, shining in both the left-back and left-wing positions.

Even with Antonino Gallo's strong presence at left-back for Lecce, he has earned a spot in the starting lineup due to his attacking prowess and effectiveness in the attacking third.

Which top European clubs are eyeing the Super Eagles-eligible fullback?

Patrick Dorgu's standout displays for Lecce have garnered significant attention across Europe.

Italian sources suggest that Serie A powerhouses Juventus and AC Milan, La Liga's Atletico Madrid, as well as a Premier League side are all vying to secure Dorgu's services for the upcoming football season.

The Super Eagles-eligible fullback has played in 29 matches for the club in all competitions, scoring two goals and providing one assist in the ongoing 2023/24 campaign.

Dorgu’s international career is, however, yet to take off, with the defender only lining up for Denmark at youth level.

The 19-year-old has so far featured for the European country’s U-18, U-19, U-20 and U-21 teams but has yet to be capped at senior level.

Patrick Dorgu's preference leans toward Chelsea.

Dorgu, in an interview with FlashScore earlier this month, expressed his admiration for two-time European champions Chelsea.

“I have been a Chelsea fan for many years, so of course it’s clear that it is a dream. That’s not to say I can’t switch to other teams in the Premier League, but even if things aren’t going so well for them right now, they’re my team.,” he said.

Leading up to the January transfer window, there were rumours of interest from Liverpool, Tottenham, and Chelsea.

However, Lecce were reluctant to part ways with him mid-season. Nevertheless, securing a transfer to any of those clubs would represent a significant milestone for a player embarking on his debut senior campaign.

Reports suggest that Spain defender Marc Cucurella may be let go, with rumours indicating he could be available for just £30 million—half of what Chelsea originally paid for him.

However, given that Dorgu comes at a fraction of that cost, Chelsea may not be overly concerned about Cucurella's potential departure.

Lewis Hall appears poised for a permanent transfer to Newcastle, while Ian Maatsen has caught the attention of several clubs due to his impressive performances while on loan at Borussia Dortmund.

Patrick Dorgu has yet to decide which country to represent at senior level.

Dorgu remains undecided on whether to represent Denmark or Nigeria at the senior level. When asked about his national team decision, he responded, ‘I haven't thought about that. Everyone dreams of being able to represent their country. I was born in Denmark and have African roots, and right now I haven't thought about having to make a choice. I just play football and let it come with time,” he told Bold.
