Red-hot Sor reveals reason behind win over Cercle Brugge

Former Nigeria U20 winger Collins Yira Sor was named Man of the Match by Genk fans after an outstanding performance in their 3-2 away win over Cercle Brugge on Saturday night in the Belgian top flight.

Sor was instrumental in all three of Genk’s goals, scoring one and assisting two others.

His assist tally now stands at four for the season, and he registered his first goal of the campaign in this match.

The Nigerian's early goal set the tone for his impressive display, with Sor acknowledging its impact on his confidence. “That early goal gave me a lot of confidence for the rest of the match,” he said.

Despite Genk’s strong start, Cercle Brugge mounted heavy pressure in the first half.

Sor admitted, “To be honest, it was only in the second half that we really got control. Cercle put us under a lot of pressure in the first half.” 

Sor: We had to make adjustments at half-time

At halftime, Genk made tactical adjustments, focusing on creating more space to bypass Cercle’s press. “We discussed how we had to make the field bigger to avoid that pressure,” Sor explained.

The adjustments worked perfectly in the second half as Sor contributed two assists and helped Genk dominate the game.

“In the second half, we were quicker on the second ball and won more duels,” he added. “The team felt that too, we started to dictate the game. That gave us the conviction that we would win.”

Sor's excellent performance was crucial to Genk securing the three points.

Another Nigerian, Tolu Arokodare, also featured in the game and scored froma Sor assist to cap a wonderful night for Nigerians in the game
