Spanish-born Nigerian striker Samu Omorodion made his mark for FC Porto in their UEFA Europa League Group Stage opener but couldn’t prevent a 3-2 loss to Norwegian champions FK Bodø/Glimt at the Aspmyra Stadion on Wednesday evening.
Omorodion opened the scoring just eight minutes into the match, giving the visitors a perfect start. His well-placed header from close range put the Portuguese giants ahead, but it wasn’t enough to maintain their momentum.
Porto’s early lead quickly evaporated, as Bodø/Glimt responded seven minutes later, with Kasper Høgh equalizing on a fast break.
In the 40th minute, Jens Hauge put Bodø/Glimt ahead with a powerful right-footed strike from outside the box. Porto had a chance to level before halftime, but Omorodion’s left-footed effort was saved.
Bodø/Glimt extended their lead to 3-1 shortly after the hour mark, with Hauge scoring again after being set up by Høgh. Although Porto grabbed a late consolation goal through Deniz Gül in stoppage time, it was too little, too late.
Samu Omorodion’s performance by the numbers
Despite the defeat, Samu Omorodion was one of Porto’s standout performers.
Playing the full 90 minutes, he registered an xG of 0.86, took four shots—two on target—and provided three key passes.
His movement and work rate were commendable, but he did miss one big chance and struggled in duels, failing to win any of his five ground battles.

Omorodion also recorded 15 accurate passes out of 22 attempts, showing glimpses of his creative ability despite Porto’s struggles on the night.
While Porto will be disappointed with the result, Omorodion’s performance offers promise for the rest of their Europa League campaign. The young striker will be keen to build on this display and convert his chances in future matches.
