Portuguese giants FC Porto have officially announced the acquisition of Samu Omorodion from Atletico Madrid, marking the club's first addition for the 2024/25 season.
Porto will pay €15 million for 50% of the player's economic rights, signing him to a five-year contract valid until 2029. The deal includes a €100 million release clause, along with two non-obligatory purchase options to acquire an additional 15% of his rights for €5 million each.
Before joining Porto, the 20-year-old was on the brink of a €40 million transfer to English Premier League side Chelsea, but negotiations broke down.
He was also subsequently linked with Juventus, Napoli, and Real Sociedad.
Omorodion's first words as a Porto player
In his first statement since joining FC Porto, Omorodion expressed his excitement and acknowledged the club’s rich history.
“It is an honor to be part of a club with the enormous history of FC Porto. I know the responsibility of playing here, where forwards such as Gomes, Jardel, Falcao, and Jackson Martínez have played, but I know I am ready,” said the Spain youth international, as relayed by the club's official website.

Omorodion first gained prominence at the start of last season with a debut senior goal for Granada against Atletico Madrid.
Shortly thereafter, despite his limited top-flight experience, the Rojiblancos secured his services and subsequently loaned him to fellow La Liga side Deportivo Alaves, where he scored nine goals and provided one assist, helping the team to a 10th-place finish in La Liga.
Born to Nigerian parents, Omorodion has pledged his international allegiance to Spain. He was a member of the Spanish squad at the Olympic Games, where he scored once in four appearances, contributing to Luis de la Fuente's side securing gold in men's football.
