Samuel Chukwueze: ‘Why not?’ – Former San Siro favourite gives outrageous transfer advice to troubled 25-year-old

Samuel Chukwueze's struggles at AC Milan have raised serious concerns about his future, and former Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins has now weighed in with a surprising solution — a move to the Saudi Pro League.

The 25-year-old has struggled for consistent game time since joining AC Milan from Spanish side Villarreal in the summer of 2023. Despite working under three different managers during his time at the San Siro, Chukwueze has yet to establish himself as a regular fixture in the Rossoneri's starting lineup.

According to Martins, the winger’s lack of game time in Italy has dented his confidence and affected his performances for both club and country, and a transfer — even to Saudi Arabia — could be just what he needs to reignite his career.

Martins: How Samuel Chukwueze can find his confidence again

In an interview with Africafoot, Martins highlighted Chwukueze's dwindling confidence and lack of regular playing time as major concerns.

“He’s an explosive winger, capable of dribbling both outside and inside…. ability to change direction at full speed. (Serie A) is a league that perfectly suits his profile,” Martins said. “Unfortunately, his lack of playing time at AC Milan has affected his confidence. He plays too little, and that limits his impact.”

Martins went on to stress the importance of a fresh start.

“In January, he was close to leaving, but Milan held him back at the last minute. Today, it’s clear he must seriously consider leaving at the end of the season to relaunch his career.

“The Saudi Pro League is becoming increasingly competitive. If a good offer comes along, why not? The main thing is for him to play and become a regular starter again. Rhythm and confidence are essential for him.

“His decline in form at club level is reflected in his performances with the Super Eagles. He absolutely must regain his rhythm if he wants to continue to be a driving force for Nigeria,” he concluded.
