West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Mowbray has provided an encouraging update on Semi Ajayi’s fitness, hinting at the defender’s imminent return to action.
The Super Eagles centre-back, who has been recovering from a high-grade hamstring injury, has returned to training and could be in contention for selection ahead of West Brom’s clash with Millwall.
As part of his efforts to regain full fitness, the 31-year-old featured for West Brom’s U-21 side in their Premier League 2 clash against Newcastle United at Aggborough last night, where the Baggies secured a convincing 3-1 victory over the Magpies.

Mowbray, who was in attendance, confirmed that both players have made significant progress toward reclaiming their spots as first-team options.
Mowbray encouraged by Ajayi’s progress in injury comeback
Speaking to the press in a recent interview, Mowbray expressed his satisfaction with Ajayi’s progress and hinted at his potential inclusion for the upcoming fixture against Millwall.
“With Semi, we have Millwall on the horizon. At six foot five, he is someone in my mind to include, so bring him along and see if he can contribute. Every coach wants the full selection,” he told Birmingham Live.
“It was nice to see Semi, who has had a shorter-term injury, but I thought the pair was excellent, and certainly their attitude in the training session on Sunday and in the game was an example to all young players.”

Ajayi’s injury could have significant implications for the Super Eagles’ quest to secure a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The three-time African champions are set to face Rwanda and Zimbabwe in March, and given their precarious position in the qualifiers, having a fully fit squad will be vital as they aim to secure maximum points.
