Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has signed a new three-year extension with South African club Chippa United, putting an end to months of speculation about his future.

The 28-year-old shot-stopper will remain with the club until 2027 as he has also been named the captain of the team for the new season.

Nwabali's contract renewal comes after a period of uncertainty regarding where he would play club football this season.

Chippa United renewal rewards Stanley Nwabali's loyalty

Since his impressive performances for Nigeria at the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations, where he helped the Super Eagles secure a second-place finish, there have been persistent rumors about his departure from Chippa United.

Several clubs had shown interest in Nwabali, including Belgian side Royal Union St Gilloise and another unnamed Spanish club.

However, Chippa United's valuation of 40 million Rand for the goalkeeper deterred many potential suitors, ultimately leading Nwabali to commit his future to the South African club.

Chippa United officially announced the contract extension on their social media platform X (formerly Twitter), expressing their satisfaction with Nwabali’s decision to stay.

The club’s statement read: “We are pleased to announce that Stanley Nwabali has signed an improved three-year contract with Chippa United FC.

“We are incredibly proud of Stanley’s dedication and commitment to the club. His leadership on and off the field has been exemplary, and we believe he is the right person to guide our team through the challenges ahead.

“With this being said, Stanley will be our new team captain for the upcoming season.”

Nwabali joined Chippa United in 2022 from the Nigeria Premier League side Katsina United. Since then, he has made 38 appearances for the club across all competitions, establishing himself as a key player for the ‘Chilli Boys.'
