The Super Eagles captain is in Finland for surgery to the injury he sustained after his heroics at the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast
Troost-Ekong, who was voted Player of the Tournament for his outstanding performances, penned a heartfelt letter to fans explaining the situation.

Troost-Ekong explains injury situation
“As many know, I got injured during the AFCON,” he wrote. “Disappointing, this injury has turned out to be more serious than first thought.”
Despite the setback, Troost-Ekong displayed true commitment and resilience, a trait familiar to fans of both his club, PAOK Salonika, and the Super Eagles. “I have always given everything and pushed myself,” he continued.
“Every player has played with pain at some point in their career to fight for club or country. It is part of the game.”
His dedication was evident as he continued playing in the knockout stages of the AFCON, even expressing his desire to do the same for PAOK in their pursuit of domestic and European glory.
“I managed to continue in the knock-out stages and I was willing to continue to do the same now to help PAOK push for the prizes in the league and Europe too.”

Injury worse than initially thought
However, after careful assessment and consultation with medical professionals, undergoing surgery was deemed the best course of action for Troost-Ekong's long-term health and career.
“But after some assessments and consultations, it was the best decision long-term to undergo surgery now,” he stated.
While his absence will undoubtedly be a blow to both PAOK and the Super Eagles in the coming weeks, Troost-Ekong's positive spirit shines through.
He concluded the letter by assuring fans, “My full focus is on getting back better than ever before.”
This determination and focus will serve him well as he embarks on the road to recovery, and fans eagerly await his return to the pitch.
