The Super Eagles have made slight progress in the first FIFA ranking of 2025, moving up one spot to 43rd in the world.

However, their continental standing has taken a hit, dropping from fifth to sixth in Africa, according to the latest ranking released by world football's governing body, FIFA, on Tuesday.

In November, the Super Eagles recorded the sharpest decline of any nation in the FIFA rankings, tumbling eight spots from 36th to 44th in the world.

Their downward trajectory began with a disappointing 1-1 draw away to Benin and was compounded by a shocking 2-1 home defeat to Rwanda in Uyo, both during the final phase of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

In 2025, the Super Eagles have played two matches in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, securing a victory against Rwanda and settling for a draw against Zimbabwe.
