Super Eagles get 2025 AFCON qualifiers date with Libya

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are set to continue their quest for qualification to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with a crucial double-header against Libya next month.

Having started their campaign on a strong note, Nigeria currently top Group D after a 3-0 victory over Benin in Uyo and a goalless draw against Rwanda in Kigali, earning them four points.

Next on their schedule is a showdown with the Mediterranean Knights of Libya.

The first leg will take place on October 11th at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, where the Super Eagles will look to maintain their unbeaten run.

Four days later, Nigeria will travel to Tripoli for the second leg, which is set for October 15th at the Tripoli International Stadium.

Nigeria leads the group with four points, followed by Benin on three, Rwanda with two, and Libya trailing with just one point.

A strong showing in these upcoming fixtures will be vital for the Super Eagles to consolidate their top spot in the group and edge closer to AFCON qualification.

The last time Nigeria faced Libya was in October 2018, also in AFCON qualifiers.

The Super Eagles triumphed 4-0 in Uyo before securing a thrilling 3-2 victory in Sfax, Tunisia, where Libya had adopted as their home ground.

With the top two teams in each group advancing to the tournament, Nigeria will aim to secure their place in the AFCON finals, set to take place in Morocco in December 2025.

Nigeria made it all the way to the final of the last edition losing 2-1 to hosts, the Ivory Coast in an entertaining final.
