Ihefu FC's Benjamin Tanimu has expressed joy over receiving his inaugural call-up to the Super Eagles for Nigeria's upcoming pair of friendlies this month.
The Super Eagles are set to face the Black Stars of Ghana on March 22 and the Eagles of Mali four days later, with both matches taking place in Morocco.
The 21-year-old centre-back was included in the list of 26 players released by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for the two friendly games.
Tanimu showcased remarkable performances with Bendel Insurance last year, contributing significantly to Benin Arsenal's formidable defence in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

He was one of the NPFL players tipped to make it into José Peseiro's 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2024) squad.
Tanimu's reaction after first Nigeria call-up
Tanimu expressed his gratitude to the press, stating, “It’s God’s doing. This time last year, I was also invited to the U-23 team.
“I’m glad to have been invited to the Super Eagles of Nigeria for the upcoming international friendlies against Mali and Ghana. It’s huge progress for my career.
“Clarion call heard and I’m ready to serve Nigeria with all strength.”
Prior to his transfer to Ihefu in Tanzania in January, Tanimu was a regular presence in Bendel Insurance’s defence in the Nigerian elite football league since their promotion to the top flight in 2023.
With two goals scored in 19 appearances before his transfer, he was instrumental in their remarkable 21-game unbeaten streak in the league last season.
Additionally, he played a pivotal role in their victory in the 2023 Federation Cup.
Tanimu's professional football journey
Tanimu's journey from the streets of Benin to the national team epitomises perseverance, talent, and determination.
Growing up in a football-centric community, he honed his skills on the dusty pitches of local clubs, nurturing dreams of representing his country on the international stage.
His breakthrough occurred at Bendel Insurance, where his defensive prowess and commanding presence on the field caught the attention of scouts.
Guided by experienced coaches and mentors, Tanimu thrived, establishing himself as one of Nigeria's most promising young talents.
His decision to join Tanzania's Ihefu Sports Club marked a significant advancement in his career path. Despite scepticism about moving to a less renowned league, Tanimu saw it as an opportunity for personal and professional development.
His transfer demonstrated his ambition to challenge himself in new settings and embrace the rigours of foreign competition.
Amid Troost-Ekong's absence, can Tanimu secure his spot in the Super Eagles squad?
With William Troost-Ekong sidelined, Tanimu has a chance to showcase his abilities and stake his claim in the heart of the Super Eagles defence.
His strong performances in the Tanzanian league have not gone unnoticed, and now, on the brink of his national team debut, he has the perfect platform to prove his worth to the coaching staff and fans alike.
As Nigeria looks to build a formidable squad for future tournaments, Tanimu's emergence provides a fresh injection of talent and potential.

His debut for the Super Eagles could mark the beginning of a promising international career, and his presence on the pitch will undoubtedly be closely scrutinised by fans eager to see if he can rise to the challenge and make a lasting impact on the team.
Super Eagles legend Finidi George to lead Nigeria
Amidst the vacancy in the position of Nigeria's coach and with two friendlies looming, insiders at the NFF indicate that Finidi George, a renowned Super Eagles legend, has been tasked with guiding Nigeria through these upcoming matches.
Currently at the helm of Enyimba, Finidi previously served as one of Jose Peseiro's deputies during the Portuguese coach's tenure.
The 52-year-old is anticipated to take charge temporarily until a permanent coach is appointed.
