Super Eagles defender set for Serie A return after 10-month layoff

Super Eagles defender Tyronne Ebuehi has taken a significant step in his recovery from a challenging knee injury, returning to training with Serie A side Empoli.

This development comes as the team prepares for a tough away fixture against Inter Milan on Sunday.

The right-back has been sidelined since suffering a cruciate ligament injury in a league clash against Bologna in March 2024.

Following surgery on his right knee, the 29-year-old missed the remainder of the 2023/24 season and has yet to feature in any match this campaign.

Ebuehi’s return to training marks the final phase of his rehabilitation, though he is currently participating only partially with the squad.

His return to full fitness will be crucial for Empoli, who are battling to maintain their top-flight status in Italy.

Ebuehi's return a boost for Empoli

The defender, who joined Empoli from Portuguese giants Benfica in 2022, has made 41 appearances for the club.

However, injuries have plagued his career in recent years, keeping him out of action not just for his club but also for the Nigerian national team, who he has not played for in almost 12 months.

While it may take some time before he is fully match-ready, Ebuehi’s presence in training is a positive boost for Empoli, who currently sit 13th in Serie A with 20 points from 20 matches.

As Empoli gear up for their trip to Milan, fans will hope that Ebuehi’s return can bolster the team’s defence in their quest to their top flight status in Italy.
