Ahead of Rwanda’s crucial World Cup qualifier against the Super Eagles of Nigeria, two Amavubi players have voiced their confidence in newly appointed head coach Adel Amrouche, commending his tactical approach and leadership as they gear up for the encounter on March 21.
The Algerian, who took charge in March, has wasted no time in making a strong impression on his squad. With a clear vision and structured approach, Amrouche has instilled a renewed sense of belief within the Amavubi camp.
Steve Rubanguka and Kevin Muhire, have publicly praised the coach’s influence, highlighting his approach to training, player management, and overall vision for the team.

Rubanguka expressed his belief in the coach’s ability to elevate the team, stating, “I can say that he has a good approach to the players, and I believe that he will take us to another level. With his experience in past jobs, he has that capacity to raise our level,” he said as reported by Rwandan outlet The New Times.
Muhire echoed similar sentiments, stressing “What I believe, he is a good coach, how he talks and orient his training. We believe that, with his approach, we will get good results in the next two matches.”
Rwanda's recent record against Nigeria's Super Eagles
Historically, Rwanda have not been considered a major threat to the Super Eagles on the international stage, but recent encounters suggest a shift in dynamics.
The Amavubi may have taken two decades to secure their first-ever victory over the Super Eagles, yet their performances in recent meetings highlight a growing resilience against the three-time African champions.

Rwanda’s breakthrough moment came during the last international break when they stunned Nigeria with a 2-1 victory on the latter’s home soil.
That landmark win not only ended their long wait for a triumph over the Super Eagles but also reinforced their ability to compete with Africa’s footballing giants.
Beyond that result, the Amavubi have managed to hold their own in this fixture, losing only two of their last seven encounters with Nigeria.
