Super Eagles star forward voted Canaries’ Player of the Month

Super Eagles winger Moses Simon has been named Nantes' Player of the Month for August, marking a remarkable return to form following a lengthy injury setback.

The Nigeria international clinched the accolade after an impressive start to the 2024/25 Ligue 1 season, during which he contributed key goals to his club's early success.

Simon received 43% of the fan vote, outshining teammates Alban Lafont, Matthis Abline, and Nathan Zézé. His standout performances saw him score two crucial goals in three games, playing a pivotal role in Nantes' victories over AJ Auxerre and Montpellier.

The only match Simon didn’t find the back of the net was a goalless draw with Toulouse, where he still made significant contributions.

Simon form a boost for Super Eagles' AFCON hopes

Moses Simon’s resurgence couldn’t have come at a better time for Nantes. After missing the latter half of the previous season due to injury, he returned with a bang, helping his side to a promising start in Ligue 1. His goals and all-round play have been vital to the Canaries, as he clocked 237 minutes across three matches, proving he’s back to full fitness.

The former Levante winger will officially be presented with the Player of the Month award before Nantes’ next home game against Stade de Reims on September 15, 2024.

Simon's return to form is also a timely boost for Nigeria, who are preparing for their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 qualifying opener against Benin Republic this Saturday in Uyo. Nigeria struggled without Simon in their June World Cup qualifiers, including a 2-1 loss to Benin.

Now fully fit, the 28-year-old winger will be looking to make an impact for the Super Eagles as they aim to kick off their AFCON qualifying campaign on a strong note.
