Super Falcons: Alozie, Payne in danger as interim coach Madugu set to prioritize homegrown talents

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have emphasized its commitment to nurturing home-based players for the future of the Super Falcons.

NFF President, Ibrahim Gusau, speaking to NFF TV, revealed that the search for a permanent head coach will be temporarily paused as the federation prioritizes developing a strong core of domestic players capable of competing with their international counterparts.

Gusau confirmed that interim coach Justin Madugu will continue his work with the Super Falcons, focusing on identifying and nurturing talent from the Nigeria Women’s Football League. The NFF is collaborating with the Super Falcons’ technical team to organize a camp where domestic league players will have the opportunity to showcase their skills.

“We have started the process to get a substantive coach for the Super Falcons, but before that, we are planning to use the FIFA window before us in October to see how we can engage the team to make them more competitive,” Gusau explained.

Madugu’s role in player development for the Super Falcons

Madugu, recommended as interim coach in September, has been tasked with blending home-based players with experienced internationals. This strategy aims to uncover new talent while ensuring the Super Falcons remain competitive on the global stage.

Gusau hinted that some established stars could be called up alongside these emerging talents to provide guidance and experience.

“He may invite some of the old players to mix with them to see how we can bring in some talents into the team,” Gusau said.

Several current Super Falcons stars, including Asisat Oshoala, Chiamaka Nnadozie, and Gift Monday, began their careers in Nigeria’s domestic league before securing moves to European clubs. The NFF hopes this initiative will replicate that success for future generations.
