‘We have missed the Olympics for too long’ – Nigerians ecstatic as Super Falcons edge Banyana Banyana

Nigeria's Super Falcons clashed with Banyana Banyana of South Africa on Friday April 5, with both teams setting their sights on a place in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

Both sides came into Friday's game with a ton of confidence. While the Super Falcons were on a six-match unbeaten run, Banyana Banyana had no losses in eight games.

In spite of Banyana Banyana's best efforts, they fell to the Super Falcons by a lone goal, as Rasheedat Ajibade converted from the spot in the first half to give Nigeria the victory.

Desiree Ellis' troops tried to get back on level terms, but to no avail, as Chiamaka Nnadozie made a couple of fine saves to deny Banyana Banyana.

Heading into Friday's encounter, the Super Falcons had lost three of their previous four skirmishes with Banyana Banyana, and their most recent loss came at the Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2022.

Both teams will square off against each other once more, this time in South Africa on April 9. Banyana Banyana will hope to salvage their Olympics hopes by overturning a one-goal deficit.

With that in mind, Nigerians took to X (formerly Twitter) to voice their opinions on Nigeria vs South Africa.
