Blazing Arokodare teases Champions League destination: ‘I hear they need a striker…’

In-form Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare has joked that he might join Real Madrid after being constantly linked with a move away from Genk.

Arokodare joined the Belgian side in January 2023 after spending the previous two seasons on loan at Ligue 2 side Amiens. The forward’s stock have since risen, having bagged 15 goals in all competitions last season.

The 23-year-old has also started the 2024/25 campaign in imperious form, with his double in Genk’s 3-4 victory over Beerschot last Saturday taking his tally to four goals in four matches in the Belgian Pro League.

In light of continued speculation, Genk manager Thorsten Fink has warned that the in-form centre-forward will not come cheap, insisting, “We are not going to sell our top striker for small money.”

Where is Tolu Arokodare's next transfer destination?

The striker has been particularly linked to Trabzonspor as a potential replacement for compatriot Paul Onuachu, who was on loan at the Turkish club last season.

Discussing his future, Tolu Arokodare gave a tongue-in-cheek response after suggesting he might join Real Madrid to complement Mbappe in the Blancos’ attack.

While the Nigerian later clarified that he was joking and said he was focused on continuing to deliver for Genk, he noted that he was still uncertain whether would be at the club by the time the transfer window shuts.

“I think I might go to Real Madrid,” he said, according to Het Laatste Nieuws. “I hear they are still looking for a second striker next to Mbappe.

“No, just kidding… I have a contract with Genk and I am focused on this club, not on rumours. Where do I see my future? I am not a clairvoyant. No idea, man.”
