Trabzonspor to submit improved bid for Onuachu as scoring woes continue

Published on by

Trabzonspor are reportedly preparing to make an improved bid for Southampton striker Paul Onuachu as the Turkish club seeks to address their ongoing scoring difficulties.

The towering forward joined Trabzonspor on loan last season after a disappointing start to his tenure with Southampton. The move to Turkey proved to be a turning point for Onuachu, as he regained his form, contributing to 21 goals in 25 appearances—scoring 17 and assisting four.

After his loan spell ended, Trabzonspor expressed strong interest in making the forward's move permanent. Their initial offer of €7 million, plus €2 million in add-ons, was rejected by the English club.

Reports indicate that Southampton have set a price of €12 million (£10.3 million) for the Nigeria international, a figure Trabzonspor are reportedly unable to afford due to constraints within their summer budget.

Martin’s endorsement of Paul Onuachu pressuring Trabzonspor?

Abdullah Avcı's side have struggled significantly in front of goal this season, managing only one goal in their last three matches. Keen on a permanent solution to their attacking woes, they have re-ignited their interest in Paul Onuachu, per Turkish outlet Sabah.

Adding to the urgency, Southampton manager Russell Martin's recent comments on the 30-year-old forward may also be influencing Trabzonspor's decision-making.

Martin noted, “He's a different Paul to the one I came across last season in terms of confidence.

“I think the last pre-season was so difficult for so many of them. This summer he's a different beast and whilst he's here, same as Kyle Walker-Peters, we will try and utilize him.”

Having completed preseason with Southampton, Onuachu could well play a significant role in Martin's squad for the upcoming season.
