Victor Boniface: 3 reasons why hilarious social media posts have dried up

Published on by

Last season, Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface became a fan favourite—not just for his excellent performances for Bayer Leverkusen, but also for his lively personality on social media.

The 25-year-old was very active online, regularly posting memes, cracking jokes, and sharing his takes on everyday issues.

His humour and down-to-earth vibe made him stand out, earning him even more followers who enjoyed both his football and his banter.

One of the most talked-about parts of his social media life was the mysterious “Amaka,” an imaginary girlfriend he referenced often.

Many fans were unsure if she was real or just a creative alter ego, but it added an extra layer of fun to his posts.

Even Bayer Leverkusen’s social media team got in on the act. They started tweeting about him in Nigerian Pidgin, fully embracing his style and connecting more with Nigerian fans.

As Leverkusen marched to the Bundesliga title unbeaten, Boniface’s posts were consistent and energetic. He was enjoying his football, and it showed in everything he shared online.

This season, however, things have gone quiet. His funny tweets and memes are no longer as regular.

Here are three possible reasons why Boniface’s hilarious online content have reduced.

Boniface & Leverkusen’s mixed season

Compared to the highs of last season, this campaign has been more challenging for both Boniface and his club. While they’re still in contention near the top, the dominance and swagger of last season aren’t there.

The momentum from going unbeaten, winning the league, and being in top form seems to have dipped.

For a player like Boniface, who thrives on energy and confidence, that change can have a big impact.

His form has also been inconsistent, which may explain why his usual cheerful online presence has slowed down.

The good vibes that fuelled his posts aren’t flowing like before.

Aborted Saudi Arabia move

In January, rumours were strong that Boniface was set to leave for Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia. The reports got so detailed that figures about salary and transfer fees were all over the media.

In the end, the move didn’t happen. He remained in Germany, but the distraction may have thrown him off a bit.

Since then, his funny social media posts became less frequent.

He posted here and there, but it wasn’t like before. Eventually, the funny content dried up completely.

Super Eagles fan & media impatience

Normally, Boniface’s social media lights up during international breaks. But during the last one, it was unusually quiet.

After a section of the Nigerian press called for him to be dropped from the squad, he made the list—but stayed quiet throughout the period. There were no memes, no jokes, just silence.

Even after Nigeria’s disappointing draw with Zimbabwe, all he shared was a short apology on Instagram. Since then, his posts have mostly been limited to pictures from training or club games.

The once-vibrant character Nigerians loved to follow has gone quiet online.
